How HR Technology Has Adapted to COVID-19 So Far

“Remote working” and “the new normal,” these are all phrases that we have heard a million times before now. The COVID-19 Pandemic struck last year, leaving many businesses scrambling to adapt to changes and stay afloat. Digital transformation of the workforce has been accelerated due to many having to perform their tasks from home, instead of in the office. Going digital has been the main focus of many companies as doing so was what kept all employees connected, even when they were not all present in the physical workplace together. A survey carried out by Human Resource Executive found that over 83% of respondents have become more focused on the digital aspects of the workforce over the previous year. As things have slowly eased up and employees are slowly returning to the office, this does not mean that the digitisation of the workplace has slowed. Employee Engagement Tools in HR

Today, employers are expected to care for employees beyond just their performance at work. Generally speaking, mental and physical health have also taken precedence to many employers. As such, employee engagement has become a very important component of HR affairs. Changes in the modern workplace have forced HR departments to step up their employee engagement efforts. This has only been further sped up by the COVID-19, which has undoubtedly caused huge changes in the everyday workplace. For one thing, employee engagement now has the added challenge of going digital. As such, HR has taken to having online portals where employees can assist themselves with HR Tasks such as leaves, claims and payroll-related matters. Likewise, online communication tools such as Zoom and Google Hangouts have been utilised in order for colleagues to stay connected with one another. HR Technology has had to find ways to stay engaging even remotely. HR Technology has developed to focus on more than just HR functions, but also on the employees.

Self-Service

With so many employees working from home, many HR functions had to be done online as well. Tasks that could previously be done by applying with or talking directly to HR now have to be done remotely. HR Technology has had to evolve to be more user-friendly. HR Tasks such as claims, leave and work schedule now have to be applied for independently by employees, as there is no longer a physical HR department for them to go to in order to get these done. HR Technology has had to become more user-friendly and suitable for users of all levels of tech-savviness. 

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing streamlines the entire onboarding process, amongst other HR tasks. This includes employee wellness, company culture and data security. Furthermore, it can connect employees from any corner of the globe thanks to its accessibility. With the COVID-19 Pandemic, all of these things have been sorely needed by HR professionals in order to still be able to carry out their day-to-day tasks through one single, secure platform. 

 

Everyone and everything has had to adapt to the COVID-19 Situation. HR Technology has gone through a significant amount of change throughout this period of time. These changes have all contributed significantly to the advances in HR technology, and the convenience it adds to the lives of employees.
